The Story of the Adirondack Canoe Company — and the Last Cascade

The Adirondack Canoe Company was born from the passion of two craftsmen who loved the outdoors and believed deeply in the simple joy of canoeing. They didn’t chase mass production or big‑box distribution. They built boats the old‑fashioned way — by hand, with pride, and with a clear vision of what a great canoe should feel like on the water.

Over the years they created several beautiful models:
The Tamarack. The Algonquin. The Boreas.
Each one had its own personality, its own purpose, its own loyal following.

But our favorite was always The Cascade.

The Cascade is small, light, and incredibly stable — the kind of canoe that makes you feel confident the moment you sit down. It’s perfect for those of us who don’t bend quite like we used to, and for any sportsman who wants a boat that’s steady, predictable, and easy to load on the car.

Sadly, the Adirondack Canoe Company didn’t survive. The doors closed, the tools went quiet, and the molds were left without a home. This Cascade may be one of the last ones we ever see.

We’re hoping another builder steps in, buys the mold, and keeps this wonderful design alive. But for now, this boat is truly one‑of‑a‑kind — a final chapter from a small company that built canoes with heart.

If you’ve been looking for a light, stable, beautifully crafted solo canoe, this Cascade is something special. And once it’s gone, it may be gone for good.

From the ADK Listing:
The Cascade is a new 12-foot design released by Adirondack Canoe Company in the summer of 2023. Built with a wider, flatter bottom and pronounced tumblehome the Cascade has excellent initial and secondary stability.

Like the Boreas, we offer two styles in this canoe, one with higher sides and a hung seat for those who prefer to row with oars or use a single paddle, or a version with lower sidewalls and a pack canoe-style seat mounted to the floor. It is a super choice for backcountry fishing or all-around recreation.

Standard lay-up is a dogbone carbon/Kevlar combination on the exterior and Kevlar interior.

Shipping Information

We ship our boats via courier shipping with first-to-final-mile delivery, which means that your boat will stay on one truck and will not change hands from our door to your door. After you place your order, we will contact our network of couriers and/or put it out for bid, and contact you with cost and delivery estimates. Depending on your boat's destination, this process may take several weeks - the further from our location, the longer the process may take. We ask that you inspect your boat for any shipping damage prior to signing for and accepting the delivery.

Please be aware that these are large, premium boats requiring special handling. We’ve provided an estimated shipping cost, but the final amount may vary depending on distance, delivery location, and the transporter we secure for your order. Kenco does not profit from shipping—charges reflect only the actual delivery expense.
